You may say I’m a dreamer

Dream Catcher DIY:

I’ve always loved dreamcatchers…there are so many different variations of colors and sizes and styles…and on top of looking really cool they have a really interesting meaning and history

The dream catchers I’ve created are strictly just decorative…I drew a ton of inspiration from mixed media artist Rachel Rice (amazinggg), who was featured on the Free People blog a while back…

Start out with supplies you want to incorporate into your dream catcher…here I have assorted yarns and trims, a crochet doilie, beads, feathers, and some dried potporri…you can use so many different materials depending on what you want the end result to be…I was going for a neutral color palate and a more natural feel…

Choose a size and shape you would like your dream cather to be so you can start with the frame…I wanted to make a huge round one so I used a hoola hoop…(for smaller ones I’ve used bamboo purse handles and bangles).

You can leave your frame in its natural state or cover it with yarn, string, or fabric…I chose yarn for this one because of its size…

Secure the yarn and begin tightly wrapping around the frame until it is covered…tie off ends…

Once your frame is ready you can begin to create the “web”…I used a different color yarn for this…

Space out the “knots” depending on how big or small you want the weave to be (the larger the space between each one…the larger the weave…) Continue this same wrapping motion keeping the string as tight as possible around the entire frame…

Once you’ve finished the first round…continue the same wrapping motion by looping the yarn through the center of the next hole…(if this part is confusing there are YouTube videos that may make it easier to figure out)…

You can add beads or anything along the way if you want…once you get to the center add any more decorations and knot off the end…I added a doilie in the center of mine…

From this point you are done with the hard part and you can really just decorate however you wish! I made several strands to hang off the bottom using different trims, beads, dried flowers, and a blue foxtail that hadn’t found a home yet…

Be creative and Enjoy!

Black and White and Cashmere All Over

So I have to admit I don’t think I’ve ever owned anything cashmere…I feel like it’s really a shame…because when I found this maxi skirt and put it on for the first time I realized I’ve seriously been missing out…it makes my lower half feel like a happy little caterpillar in a silky warm cacoon…mmm…

I think the reason I’ve never really gone for anything cashmere is because it always seems too “fancy” or “preppy” for me…thats why I was extra pumped about this skirt because it didn’t give me the feeling that it would end up sitting in my closet for a special occasion or a job interview…yay for cashhhhual cashmere!

I dressed it down with a little leather and a burnout tee (that has a super low scoop back that I love!)…

Outfit: Cynthia Rowley cashmere maxi skirt, F21 jacket and burnout, thrifted belt, H&M booties and fringe necklace, assorted bracelets and rings

My Father/Daughter Design Project- Phase 1

This ones a bit off the usual topic of fashion…seeing as I spent everyday last week looking like a 15 yr old grungy boy wearing the same torn old cords, cut-off stones tee-shirt, flannel, hoodie, and sneakers (yes…I own sneakers…only cute ones though :))

This year for Christmas I hand-made all my gifts, but when it came to my Dad, I had a hard time coming up with something he would really like…or use.  He’s in the process of moving his office into a new space and had mentioned he would need to paint…so for his gift, we agreed that I would help get his new space ready in any way I could…and I made him a little coupon book for my services…just for fun 🙂

Turns out…there was a hell of a lot more than painting that needed to be done…so I decided to really commit myself to this project…and after a week of 10 hour-long work days….5-guys burger dates with dad, and several trips to Home Depot…I think we are both pretty happy with the results….and we haven’t even gotten to the REALLY fun part…decoratinggggg!

Heres what we were working with…

Nasty old stained and peeling wallpaper, chipped paint, and more dirt and filth than you can imagine…but…the ol’ place had character..and potential…

Just removing the wallpaper, backing, and glue took 2 full days…

Pumped to discover that some dummy had painted over this original brick fireplace hearth…so I scraped that crap right off…and this became one of my favorite things about the room!

Least favorite part though…painting this drop ceiling…luckily I could remove some of the tiles so I could lay them down to paint them…but for the others…I was forced to work these huge arm muscles and strain the poo out of my neck to use the paint roller to push each one up against the solid ceiling above to paint it…oh and also…the large amount of unidentified “stuff” that came spilling down on me every time I moved a tile was frightening…

But I think in the end it was definitely worth it (trust me… this looks much better)!

…finally ready to paint the trim and walls!

May have inhaled too many fumes…

But overall I think we have a pretty damn good before and after…and I’m really looking forward to moving in his things and helping him redecorate! It will be at least another week until then…but I imagine that part will be more interesting for you all to hear about…

Faktori Girl Contest

Here are a few of the photos I entered for a vintage styling contest held by the girls at Artifaktori Vintage (click link for full details).  I decided to enter two different looks, a formal and a casual.  I hesitated to post this before the results are decided but then I thought…if I win…sweeeeet!….if not…that’s ok too…I tried something different…also…it was pretty fun to play dress-up with some great vintage items…

For my casual look I styled my moms vintage wedding dress 🙂 The idea of wearing it was really special…but when I put it on and it fit like a glove it just took it to a whole new level…and it made my mom really happy ❤

Casual Outfit: Mom’s wedding dress<3 (“got that at a chic store on Newbury St…in 1980”), vintage bag from Treasures and Temptations in Hyannis, vintage green shoes – Christmas gift from Jamie, F21 tights, necklace borrowed from Jamie

For my formal look I styled another one of my mom’s vintage dresses (also worn on here on Halloween). I really love the lace detail on this dress…and in my opinion…you can’t have formal vintage without a little bit of (faux) fur!

Roses are red…

…and so is my hair…eeek! Yep….new year new hair color….why not right?  Its going to take some getting used to but I think it’s a pretty fun time…

I’ve actually been super busy this past week…(woohoo!)…I’ve been working my fadass off on a big project with/for my dad that’s been really fun! Also, I decided to enter a little vintage styling contest…so I’ll have both projects to share with you this week!

It’s been freezing out lately…and we finally got a decent amount of snow…which makes outdoor outfit photos a bit more difficult because…well it’s hard to make a puffy head to toe snow suit, long underwear,  and rubber boots look stylish…or is itttt!?!…Hmm… I think I just might just have to attempt this winter-y challenge at some point…

I managed to stay warm by layering up with a hefty wool plaid and wool jacket with a faux fur collar…the only thing I found myself wanting was some mittens… it didn’t take long for my little fingers to turn to icles…noted.

Jacket deets…love the brass buttons and the clean tailoring…and the furrrr obv.

Outfit: Levi’s skinny jean, thrifted wool plaid, Ann Taylor Loft jacket, and F21 booties

2011 Picture Book

I’ve put together quite a photo collection from this past year…where I was…things I saw…things I did…new friends…old friends…family…you name it.  But first…

I’m usually not one for New Year’s resolutions, but this year I’m ready to start fresh and I’m welcoming change with open arms….

A few things I’m hoping for:

Be more positive

Be less lazy

Find a good job

Move to a new place

Take more chances

And now I will overwhelm you with a ridiculous amount of pictures…Enjoy!

Was sad to start out 2011 by saying goodbye to my life on Cape Cod and to my first solo apartment ❤ (apt. pics by David McWilliams Photography….my landlord there!

…but I think I ended up having a pretty damn good year…

My LF Holiday Wishlist Look!

This weekend I went to a Boston Blogger Mixer hosted by the lovely girls at the LF store in Harvard Square!  Jamie and I did a recap post over on Double Standard so check it out to find out more about the party…and see lots of fun pictures! 🙂

My absolute favorite part of the night was when we got to raid the entire store in search for our favorite LF look for the Holiday’s! We each put on our look and got our picture taken in their holiday photo booth!

LF is absolutely one of my dream wardrobe stores…I want everything they sell…so picking out just one outfit was actually quite a challenge. I tried on a bunch of amazingggg things, but found myself trying to pile on everything I loved in one outfit and looking crazy.  While there was a ton of things there that I’ve been dying to own for a long time…I decided to create a look that I’d wear anywhere and everywhere….

Wishlist Item 1: A chunky cream sweater I could wear with everything…

Wishlist Item 2: Black quilted faux leather shorts…seeeriously in love…

Wishlist Item 3: my favorite footwear option…BOOTIES…not just any booties though… Jeffery Campbell booties…drooling…

Wishlist Items 4 & 5– this great necklace and some fuzzy ear muffs for fun (and for warmth!) to finish off my look!

So….pretty please? Santa??….Anyone?….. Beuller?…. 🙂

Song of the Day: Is actually not a song…because I felt more in the mood for a festive movie clip instead of a Christmas song…here’s one of my favorite Christhmith Vacation thenes…(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gTKpKBzd7jg&feature=fvsr)
